Earlier this month I went to Chicago and Milwaukee to visit family. One of the highlights from the trip was visiting the Shedd Aquarium. The aquarium is located in the heart of downtown Chicago next to Navy Pier, Millennium Park, and the Field Museum. We took the L train downtown and it was packed both ways with festival goers (Lollapalooza was bumpin’ in the park!) and Cubs fans on their way to the ballpark.
Thinking about it, I am pretty sure this was my first time at the Shedd Aquarium. Despite visiting the Chicago area almost every year of my life, we’ve never been!
I was impressed with the exhibits. There was an AWESOME exhibit on the Amazon showcasing the plants and animals that live on the Amazon river and in the rainforest. And it wasn’t just aquatic life. There were even cute little monkeys and a giant anaconda.
Highlights for me were touching sturgeon (damn, those things are ugly!) and stingrays. I learned a lot about the aquatic life of the Great Lakes and Mississippi River. Definitely a fun time and I would recommend a visit if you’re ever in Chicago. Fair warning, the entry line is loooooong so get there early or go on a weekday.
Have you been to the Shedd Aquarium?
