Last year was the first time I participated in the Blogging A-to-Z Challenge. This alphabetical blogging competition is hosted every April and has grown to include over 2,000 participants! Not only is it an inspirational way to create new content for my blog, it is also a fantastic way to meet new bloggers from all different genres: travel writers, lifestyle guides, poetry, and everything in between.
And this year, I am taking on the challenge for a second time. What does this mean for you, dear reader? It means that for 26 days in April I will be blogging my way through the alphabet, from A to Z. Last year, I focused on travel themed posts! But this year I have picked a different theme. Drum roll, please…..
Short stories!
Oh, yes. I am diving straight into the deep end of fiction writing and trying my hand at short stories. The last time I did any creative writing was for a storytelling event when I was in the Peace Corps. The inspiration came to me just before bedtime one night and I worked and re-worked the story until I was satisfied with result. The whole process was fun and a new experience for me. In school I wrote a lot. But, the paper topics were all non-fiction and academic. Creative writing is completely different which makes this year’s blogging event a genuine challenge for me.
Of course, my immediate goal is to complete the challenge (aka write 26 posts). But, on a personal level I want to expand my imagination and write about many different things from many different perspectives. Each short story will be based on a random word that starts with that day’s letter. I cannot wait for you to read them and hear what you think!
Does the Blogging A-to-Z challenge interest you? You can click HERE to read more about the challenge. Let me know if you sign-up because I would love to read your posts! If you are a regular reader of my blog then look forward to a lot more content in April. It’s just around the corner! Can you believe it?
I will be doing the A to Z Challenge, have added the badge to my WordPress blog, but don’t know where we have to sign up. Can you help me, please

Hi there! Happy to hear you’re also participating. How are the posts going? I like to write all 26 in advance but this year I am woefully behind schedule.
By the way, there is no sign-up list this year. Instead, each day the hosts will have a blog post on their website (http://www.a-to-zchallenge.com/) and you will be able to link to your daily post from there. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the heads-up about the list, I couldn’t find one, but after reading your blog yesterday I thought I must have missed something.
Yes, I have started writing, only one so far, hope to write more today.
Added the badge on my blog yesterday, so it feels as though I’m getting somewhere. Haha!

The theme reveal is optional. For example, all of my posts this year will be “short stories”. That is my theme. Do you have a theme in mind?

I’ll be participating this year, talking about being a consultant for Usborne Books & More and also about my time while my husband was deployed this past summer. 🙂 Looking forward to seeing what your posts!

I love love love this idea of writing a short story every day! I wish I’d come across this post earlier because it’s such a fantastic creative project. I’ve read a couple of your posts but I’m bookmarking your blog so I can come back and read them all after work. You’re incredibly talented at writing and I can’t wait to read more! Xxx

Wow! Thank you so much for the kind words. You’re so sweet. I enjoyed writing the short stories. It was a lot of fun waiting for my brain to come up with an idea.

And the word prompts must be fun to create ideas from – definitely helpful with writer’s block anyway!
