Header-Month in Review

May 2017

May has come and gone which means I have lived two full months in Japan. Life is going well out here. We have completely moved in and furnished our apartment as well as figured out how to pay our monthly bills (more about that later).

I started learning Japanese characters. So far I can say the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and a few words. Whenever I ride the train I am making a point of playing the game “I, spy” with the Hiragana and Katakana characters that I know. In college, I took five weeks of Mandarin before dropping the class. My brain could not handle the tones and Chinese characters. Japanese seems more manageable in comparison.

I also found the most amazing hair salon in Harajuku, a neighborhood in Tokyo. My Google search went something like: “English speaking hair salon Tokyo” andย voila Hayato Salon popped up. Included with the price of a hair cut is your choice of essential oil shampoo, 10 minute head massage plus a shoulder massage. The experience was heavenly.

Here are some of my May highlights:

  • Went to a cat pub!
  • Tried and loved purple sweet potato ice cream!
  • Paid the previous tenant’s electric bill. Whoopsie!
  • Visited Tokyo Disney Sea and Tokyo Disneyland!! Look out for posts and pictures soon!
  • Purchased an air plant. So far, it’s alive!
  • Read 7 books! Check out my 2017 reading list HERE!

How was your month? What did you get up to?

Thank you so much for the suggestion!! Our city offers free Japanese lessons but I can’t seem to find their office. Home remedies are it in the meantime.

The air plant is doing well. I am blown away at the concept that it draws most of its liquid from the air. How is that possible!? How long have you had yours? Do they grow at all?
