Β My blog’s origin story

I first started blogging (with a different and now defunct) blog to share my study abroad experiences with friends and family. My old blog was private and aimed at people I knew personally.

However,Β in the fall of 2015 I decided to start blogging again. This time around my main goal has been to learn more about the behind the scenes aspects; such as SEO, graphic design, HTML, domain registration, hosting, etc. A secondary goal has been to connect with other bloggers and learn from them. I follow blogs based on a wide range of subjects and by reading them I have learned so much!

Β AdviceΒ for new bloggers

My first piece of advice for new bloggers is take baby steps! Starting a blog can be as easy as signing up and publishing your first post. Or, blogging can lead you into the complicated world of self-hosting, custom website themes, and cross-platform marketing. The joy of blogging can easily be turned into stress if you are learning all of these at once. Initially, focus on learning one or two things very well. Go on Youtube or read other blogger articles to familiarize yourself with the lingo. Implement those aspects into your blog and routine. Once you’ve got them down, move on to the next thing. Soon enough you will improve at the technical aspects and your blog will see good growth and participation.

My second piece of advice is to make connections with other bloggers. The best advice and marketing I’ve ever gotten has been from bloggers I have gotten to know. They got to know me and they were able to help me out when I had a question about x topic. Plus, they have become a built-in cheerleading group and they are the ones sharing my posts. I’m so grateful to have met so many great bloggers from around the world!
