Coffee Festival in Kawagoe

Coffee or tea? Which do you prefer? For me, it depends on my mood. I associate tea with comfort and cozy time spent reading on the sofa. However, when I want to focus and check off everything on my to-do list I brew myself a cup of coffee. Interestingly enough, I prepare my cups of tea and coffee the same: a spoonful of sugar and a generous splash of milk.

Yesterday, I got an early start at 10:30 am, okay it was early for me, and went for a walk to old Kawagoe. A coffee festival was held both days this weekend and I wanted to see what was going on. I wasn’t sure where it was and luckily someone was DJ-ing music for the festival that was being held in the courtyard of  Renkeiji Temple.

There were 21 coffee roasters and cafes represented all under shared white tents. I bought 4 tasting tickets for 1,000¥ (roughly US$9) and stepped into the courtyard. (More info on the festival details HERE) This being Japan, there were a lot of other people out and about lined up to get their small tasters. I tried a few local roasts and some far other regions of Japan. All of the coffees I tried were delicious. But, the best part of the festival was the dogs!!! We saw a hugely white and fluffy samoyed, a golden retriever, a yellow lab, and a tiny shiba inu. It’s nice living in a country where coffee (and dogs) are appreciated.
